Ciprian Antoci

In his works, Ciprian Antoci brings the inner imaginary out of hiding and creates textures and depths that provoke experiences dominated by synesthesia. In doing so, he succeeds in unifying the types of imagination, which he defines as a strictly flexible category of the world of images. His approach, though manifested fragmentarily through elements of play, rhythm, and vibrant compositions, explores the continuity of creative impulses as a vast cartography, sometimes masked within simple elements of the inner landscape that preexist creation.

The abstracted landscapes seem to unfold the canvas and reveal to the viewer the fissure between the visible and the invisible planes, beyond the figurative that becomes fluid to the point of dissolution. The bucolic, the desolate fronts, or the surreal sequences become those outopos spaces where both the artist and the viewer share the common ground of intimacy. Symbols such as the ladder, the house, the sky, even the light piercing through the foliage, compel us to look upward; yet in the painter’s case, this ascent is always placed in tandem with a descent inward.

For the artist, transcendence is achieved each time through descent and through probing the inner cleavages.

In the abstract painting he creates, the only genuine dialogue remains the interplay between searching and shaping—more precisely, the sincere experimentation of the space on the canvas. In the absence of a specific memory of the world, the perspective in the artist’s paintings becomes the event triggered either by sensory impulses or by the need to surpass the conventions of the figurative in order to deconstruct the world and suggest it with the boldness of someone discovering it for the very first time. – Carla Francesca Schoppel
