Roman Liška

Roman Liška (b. 1980, Hamburg, Germany) lives and works in Berlin and Weimar where he is Artistic Associate at the Professorship of Experimental Painting and Drawing at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. He holds a BA from Goldsmiths University of London (2011) and a MA Painting, Royal College of Art, London (2013). Liška’s rich conceptual approach to painting explores how contemporary painting practices and internet culture intersect to form hybrid entities. More than ever, learning, or even unlearning how to paint today means, to quote Stephen Westfall, “learning to play with contexts.” The implications of this statement lean into the importance of recognising the contexts within which a painting is seen alongside the field within which it is made. Its all about the network.
