Ramona RUSSU
Ramona Russu is a Romanian painter, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, who has been based in Corsica since 2014. Her work explores the complexity of female emotions and experiences, highlighting an imperfect yet resilient beauty through monochrome artworks enhanced with 24-karat gold leaf.
Inspired by the Japanese kintsugi technique, which magnifies scars by embellishing them with gold, Ramona Russu embraces the wabi-sabi philosophy, celebrating imperfection, impermanence, and authenticity. Her paintings reveal the strength that emerges from human flaws, transforming cracks and scars into essential elements of a profound and timeless aesthetic. Her artworks are part of private collections worldwide and are exhibited in prestigious galleries in Romania, France, Spain, Italy, Argentina, and the United States, alongside both established and emerging artists.
Her growing international recognition was solidified by her selection for the Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art and Design in 2021 and 2023, where she exhibited alongside major figures such as Oliviero Toscani, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and Vivienne Westwood. At the 2023 edition, her piece Présence earned her the 4th Lorenzo il Magnifico Award in the "Mixed Media" category, marking a decisive milestone in her artistic career.
In 2024, she presented her exhibition Présence at the Musée de l'Alta Rocca in Corsica, oRering an intimate reflection on resilience and self-acceptance. In early 2025, Ramona Russu inaugurated the 37th Italian Film Festival of Bastia with her exhibition Fragments, a series inspired by cinematic language and the stories it conveys.
An artist in full expansion, Ramona Russu continues to captivate and inspire an evergrowing audience with her unique vision of femininity and beauty, exploring the intimate and the universal through a prism imbued with poetry and depth.
