Radu Băieș
(b. 1988, Cluj-Napoca, Romania)
Radu Băieș is a Romanian contemporary painter living and working in Cluj-Napoca. Associated with the generation of artists emerging from the Cluj School, his work is distinguished by a poetic and symbolic visual language that blends figurative painting with dreamlike, pastoral, and subtly mystical imagery.
Born in Cluj-Napoca in 1988, Băieș studied painting at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, earning both a Bachelor's degree (2008–2011) and a Master's degree (2011–2013). He later continued his academic research through doctoral studies at the same institution.
His paintings often depict solitary figures, sheep, trees, domestic objects, and symbolic landscapes suspended between reality and imagination. Characterized by luminous color palettes, atmospheric light, and deliberate ambiguities of space and narrative, his compositions evoke themes of memory, spirituality, human presence, and the transformative power of painting itself. Critics have frequently noted the affinity of his work with Symbolist traditions, while maintaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility.
Băieș has exhibited extensively in Romania and internationally, with exhibitions in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. His works have been presented by galleries including Sector 1 Gallery (Bucharest), Quadro Gallery (Cluj-Napoca), John Martin Gallery (London), and Kühlhaus Berlin, and are held in numerous private collections in Romania and abroad.
Within the context of Pavot, Radu Băieș's work resonates through its exploration of light, symbolism, and inner landscapes, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where the boundaries between memory, myth, and lived experience become fluid.
