Pedro Pedro
(b. 1986, Los Angeles, California, USA)
Pedro Pedro is an American contemporary painter based in Los Angeles, known for his vibrant, playful reinterpretations of the still-life tradition. His work transforms everyday objects—fruit bowls, clothing, food, cigarettes, bottles, and domestic items—into animated compositions filled with humor, tension, and unexpected narrative possibilities.
Characterized by bold colors, exaggerated forms, and a deliberately loose visual language, Pedro Pedro's paintings balance the compositional discipline of classical painting with the irreverence of contemporary pop culture. His works often evoke both the grotesque figurations of Peter Saul and the expressive freedom of cartoon imagery, while maintaining a strong connection to the history of painting.
A distinctive aspect of his practice is the use of textile paint applied to unprimed linen, creating soft, matte surfaces that contrast with the intensity of his color palette. Through scenes of apparent disorder, Pedro Pedro explores themes of domestic life, consumer culture, abundance, and the subtle anxieties of contemporary existence.
His work has been exhibited extensively in the United States and internationally, with solo exhibitions at The Hole (New York), New Image Art (Los Angeles), and The Zero Zero Gallery (Los Angeles). He has also participated in group exhibitions at Nicodim Gallery (Bucharest), Library Street Collective (Detroit), Richard Heller Gallery (Santa Monica), and Hashimoto Contemporary (San Francisco), among others.
Today, Pedro Pedro is recognized as one of the notable voices in contemporary figurative painting, celebrated for his ability to transform ordinary subjects into energetic and psychologically charged visual experiences.
