My painting, although is fed by visible reality, is always imbued with some kind of hidden story and nuanced structure that is creatively transfigured. On the canvases, which are filled sometimes with eerie silence, magic and realism merge with everyday naturalness. The figures, wandering around in unusual corners, are mostly introspective, waiting for some mysterious apparition, some unknown visitor, in the all-pervading silence before the action. In a posture that imitates waiting, they themselves sometimes remain the primary subjects of the apparition. The thickening of paint spots and growth of texture first catches our attention, then tries to divert it towards an excess of content beyond the image. These strange figures, appearing in weird spaces, in environments that are difficult to compare with reality, are not part of ordinary scenes of life, but of picturesque visions. Botond Gagyi
