"Without being a revolutionary, Gheorghe Ilea has always practiced high-quality art, situated between schools and trends, attentive to the authenticity of his approach and the inner truth of the artistic act. Whether it was neo-expressionist painting (as in the famous series "Freight Wagons") or neo-Byzantinist themes (as in the "Document" series), painted objects, installations, or performances (such as the impressive "Pile of Trash"), Ilea consistently maintained this focus. An atypical figure of the '80s generation, who chose to live and work in Zalău, Ilea has quietly and steadily created a substantial and convincing body of work that has earned him a place among the most respected artists of his generation."
